Think happy, healthy butterflies and bumblebees outside your window, careful use of our natural resources, drought-resilient cut flower beds, and farm-to-vase florals. Blue-Eyed Bumblebee Florals offers an eco-conscious alternative to a florist industry currently dependent primarily on imported flowers shipped from thousands of miles away. Whether it's for an intimate gathering, for a big event, to beautify your home or business establishment, or to show a loved-one how much you care, we ensure floral design marked by artistry, a love of nature, and a commitment to the local community.
The Blue-Eyed Bumblebee Story
Our origin story is still unfolding. Founder and owner, Greta Hernandez, is a nature-lover, a gardener, a floral designer, and a mom of three in Plymouth, MA. She spent years observing local gardens, researching pollinator plants, native plants, and plants suited to Plymouth's sandy soil and salty breezes, and growing things wherever she could, often in suboptimal conditions. Then in the Spring of 2025 she was finally able to establish a big sunny hillside perennial garden in the front yard. She had the 'someday' garden she had been planning. While pregnant with her third child, Greta lovingly settled her carefully selected plants into their new home. But... she wanted to grow more flowers! And the grass taking up so much of her front yard was starting to look increasingly over-rated.
After Greta's daughter was born last October, the kitchen became a part-time floral design studio where Greta used floral arranging as an act of postpartum self-care. Sometime in the early sleep-deprived months of caring for a beautiful new baby (the 'blue-eyed bumblebee' herself) the vision for Blue-Eyed Bumblebee Florals took shape. Greta hit a few postpartum road bumps along the way, but she kept taking one baby step after another toward the goal of selling her floral arrangements at a local farmers market before the end of the Fall. The launch date for Blue-Eyed Bumblebee Florals has been set for later this September, and much bigger plans for the 2027 growing season are already in the works.
We are expanding our 'front yard flower farm' for 2027. No more grass! Just flowers! More than 50% of the new growing space will be devoted to drought-tolerant and pollinator-friendly perennial blooms. Once established, these plantings will thrive off of rainfall alone, providing food for pollinators and providing cut flowers for beautiful arrangements for years to come. We plan to use the lessons learned from this project to develop a low-commitment, accessible, and affordable model for front yard eco-friendly flower farming suited to Plymouth, MA. While supply lasts, you can purchase one of our CSA farm shares to support local agriculture on a ‘front yard scale.’
